5 OF NEXT AUTUMN 'S TRENDS TO INVEST IN NOW

by - 3/30/2013

5 continuing trends fresh from the autumn / winter 2013 runways that you can invest in right now, ahead of the rest.

1. Plaid

Tartans and plaids were relatively strong for autumn 2012. But on the autumn / winter 2013 runways, they were positively ubiquitous.
While there were classic and demure examples aplenty, the bold designers were clashing and contrasting plaid patterns with all manner of non traditional colours and prints. Grungy plaid shirts worn with sequins or chiffon, bold tartan thrown together with animal prints… If you can imagine a new way to wear plaid – particularly some unconventional way – then now’s your chance to bring it to fruition.

2.  Gothic
The romance with gothic fashion continues into autumn / winter 2013. Black lace, heavy capes, dark-lipped beauty looks and an air of mystery were all key attributes to a darkly beautiful winter look. Rich, dark colours and luxurious fabrics are to be embraced in recreating these looks.

3.  Leather skirts

Now something of a trans-seasonal staple, leather skirts can be taken well into the autumn / winter of 2013. On the most recent runways they appeared in various colours, lengths and cuts – sometimes short and sexy, sometimes crisp and demure. If you want to be really ahead of the game, take inspiration from Loewe’s below-the-knee and yet daringly slit version.

4. Winter whites

Who doesn’t love feeling like a mythical snow queen during winter? And you don’t even need to be in the snow. Winter whites were as strong as ever on the autumn / winter 2013 runways, from fluffy white furs worn with white tailored suiting, to ethereal white dresses.

5. Capes
It took a while for capes to work their way into an acceptable part of mainstream modern fashion, but having managed it they’re in no hurry to disappear. The autumn / winter 2013 runways provided some practical and stylish examples, from the dramatic to the understated.

Hint: if you want a new style to invest in now, look out for unique, rainproof materials like transparent plastic, rubber or PVC. Also don’t overlook longer cloak styles over cropped ones.
